Honoring Ines Alvidres

Brandon Williams, chair of the 2025 White Linen Night, and Honoree Ines Alvidres

Painting by Ines Alvidres, with permission from artist
This year, we celebrate and honor artist Ines Alvidres. Ines is an art advocate, theatre patron and a true community champion. Her signature vivid creations draw on nature, including birds and flowers, to truly awaken the imagination. We’re proud to recognize her significant contributions to the art scene in the 409.
Born in Chihuahua, Mexico, Ines’s journey is a testament to endurance, creativity, and the power of following your dreams. Inspired by the vibrant spirit of the Tarahumaras she encountered as a child, Ines built a life and career rooted in resilience, family, and artistic expression.
Her path was shaped by humble beginnings, long walks to school through extreme weather, and the invaluable lessons of hard work and perseverance from her parents.
Today, Ines is known for her “Friendly Abstract Straight from the Heart” — artwork that uses bold color and raw emotion to create joy, reflection, and connection. Her story reminds us that true success is built not just on talent, but on the endurance to keep moving forward, even when the road is hard.

My work is a product of what I have lived and learned in the past 60 or so years. After a career in the waning “Mad Men” days of advertising as a graphic designer and creative director, I’ve been fortunate to have an unexpected second career as a fine artist. My paintings focus primarily on the Coastal South’s abundant wildlife and its coexistence with the area’s industrial, maritime and agricultural landscape.

I was raised in a thunderous and colorful Cajun Family. I was often in trouble because of my extremely loud voice and overzealous personality. I soon discovered that quietly coloring in my small, designated area was a way to avoid such trouble. As I got older, I traded my colors for a paint brush and canvas. My designated area became a haven to release all my pent-up energy and endless mind chatter. "Laissez les bon temp rouler"
My colorful Cajun heritage is the main theme of my art. I use a vast array of colors and bright shiny movements to try and capture the nostalgia of the vital memories of my childhood and adult life i.e., fishing, hunting and exploration of the surrounding woods and places. I work with various acrylics, textured abstract techniques, and other multimedia trends. My art often imitates the serene scenes of the sea, as well as majestic beauty of wildlife. By using all the art tools in my toolbox, I hope to get one of those rare "A ha moments from my viewers.
